They aren't connected to him here, but they can feel the remnants of their bond like electricity against human flesh, and they can feel the hollowing pit of sorrow building within him now. Larry is dying. He just got this second chance, and now he is dying.
Their bond is still strong despite the distance—at least for the Spirit—and they know that he is adamant about this. He wants the Spirit to take Keeg, wants to change the past.
It is because they care for him that they decline. Their Larry isn't ready. It is too early now.
