The Kaleidoscope allows them privacy when they desire it.
Jane runs her fingers over Hammerhead's shaved scalp, feeling the texture of the stubble—a liberating, intoxicating feeling that is real even inside of their mind. Hammerhead does not know how they have managed this so well, their individuality and separation and the parts of their canvas where the stained-on colors blur into one another.
She has remained the closest to Jane, has been Jane's kneeling, devoted knight since Jane's very creation underneath those sheets. They do not need speech now; they can communicate by sense, by thought, by emotion. Hammerhead looks down at her, strokes Jane's cheek—only here is she capable of tenderness.
Casey does not mind. Casey has learned to embrace Hammerhead's presence in her own way, and Hammerhead has learned a lot from her. Casey's newness and innocence a silhouette backdrop of their future together, something that humbles Hammerhead into the present moment. She is another one that Hammerhead must protect, her soul is pure in its entire essence. Hammerhead feels inexplicably understood in Casey's hands.
You'd think space would get lonely, but there are so many stories to tell. K tells Casey stories about the inner realm, about their time saving the world, when they were small and when everything felt too big to handle and everything in between. And K teaches her—teaches them, both Casey and Hammerhead, entwined—how the world works, how the world should work. They're making their own planet in this ship, their own city to govern, population Kaleidoscope-Casey, and their precious kitten Lotion.
Space has only healed them.
Their adventures take them places beyond description, beyond the vastness of any imagination, and Jane holds Hammerhead's hand, Casey's in the other, as they experience each wonder together, an idea of forevers that only work to calm their souls. It isn't scary anymore. They're going to live forever underneath the light of these stars, forever amongst the galaxy, forever a constellation formed through the force and impact of being witnessed, loved, embraced.
