His brain is somewhere in this mess of bronze and rust, and the Spirit cannot tell if he is conscious. Cliff Steele, NASCAR driver, so successful. They still don’t understand humanity very well, and it’s been several Earth decades since they got here; success seems to be measured in how many people you’ve hurt.
He could be watching them, terrified of their inhumanity. Cliff Steele would be far from the first person to recoil at the sight of the Negative Spirit. Niles hasn’t finished him yet; who knows?
Cliff’s eyes light up red, but he doesn’t move. The Spirit gazes.
